Ready to wear is cut for an average nobody actually is. Sleeve length, shoulder slope and waist are three separate measurements, and a size that gets one right usually gets another wrong.
What we change most often
- Sleeve length. The single most common alteration, on shirts and kurtas alike.
- Trouser length and waist. Almost every pair, almost every time.
- Side seams. Taking a shirt in through the body is what turns boxy into fitted.
- Blouse fitting. Sarees are sold with a blouse piece, and it is stitched to you, not to a size chart.
Why it is free
Because a garment that does not fit does not get worn, and a customer who does not wear it does not come back. Sixteen years in, that is the whole argument. Alterations on anything bought from Spanial are free, in any of our six stores, for as long as you own it.
How long it takes
Simple length changes are usually same day. Anything structural, a shoulder or a full body adjustment, needs two to three days. Wedding wear we book properly, with two fittings, and we tell you the honest date rather than the one you want to hear.
One thing to know
An altered piece cannot be returned, because it can no longer fit anyone else. Decide on the piece first, alter second. If you are unsure, take it home, try it with your own shoes, then bring it back for the alteration.
